The deals for Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe were always going to be hard to top this transfer window. The experienced Premier League duo have been the highlights of a window in which we’ve also snapped up Glen Kamara and Jordan Jones on pre-contracts.

And either might wind up at Ibrox before there current deals expire too.

But if we were to secure the signing of Ryan Kent, would that become the biggest signing of the window?

The Sun reported this morning that Rangers were locked in discussions to sign the Liverpool loanee. Still only 22, Kent looks to have a bright future in football.

If he can find a club where he is settled and comfortable, the tricky winger could become a real player. At Ibrox, he appears to have found that. Kent himself said he would consider a move to Govan.

After stuttering form in his career so far he’s finally finding some consistency at Rangers. It helps the winger feels loved and appreciated. He’s popular amongst the fans.

And it will very much be Rangers gain if we can get the deal over the line.

Is Kent affordable for Rangers?

How much would Kent cost? According to the Daily Record, £2m. For a player of Kent’s obvious calibre that’s a steal.

Being English, Kent could also command a very high fee for a side down south in the future. For the time being though, the industrious little player is suited to Ibrox.

If Rangers can sign Kent this transfer window, it would be a major coup. And probably the smartest signing, if not best, of January so far.
