Nikola Katic has been one of the unluckiest men at Ibrox in recent weeks.
The big Croatian centre half not only lost his place to Englishman Joe Worrall, but he’s had to watch from the sidelines as the team have withered away from the strong form of early season.
That’s strong form he was a major part of. The defender forged a formidable partnership with Connor Goldson and Rangers scarcely conceded in the first 10 games.
Now, with fans heavily criticising Worrall’s recent performances, is it time the 22 year old was restored to the first team?
Changes needed, Katic could be one
More than just reinstate Katic, changes are needed across the field for Rangers. I expect there will be quite a few for tomorrow’s match with St. Mirren.
Nikola Katic was deposed by Worrall and hasn’t really got back into the team. To be fair, Katic also didn’t exactly grab his chance with both hands against Hamilton.
But getting dropped seemed to knock Katic’s confidence. He was trying too hard, taking on too much of the ball and spraying wayward passes around the pitch.
Nikola is most effective when he sticks to the simple stuff. He’s a no-nonsense defender and arguably our best player in the air. He’s rarely lost a header since he’s been at the club.
The Croatian is also good for a goal from set-pieces and Rangers have lacked that threat recently. He’s also our own player. Joe Worrall is only at the club on-loan.
The Katic Worrall debate has been raging since Nottingham Forest player Worrall joined Rangers on a season long loan deal. It initially looked like Joe Worrall had the upper hand, and the starting berth.
But after some stuttering performances from Worrall, is it time Nikola Katic got the chance to prove himself in a Rangers shirt again?
