Rangers reported interest in Hearts forward Uche Ikpeazu made for an interesting subplot as the Gers faced Hearts at Tynecastle.
Steven Gerrard’s time played out a routine 3-1 win in the end, but today was significant for a number of reasons. Not least because it let Gerrard and the fans get a closer look at the English striker.
Ikpeazu was first linked to the club earlier in the month by the Scottish Sun.
Today, the former Cambridge United man admittedly had a thankless task up front as Hearts toiled in the first half. He played the full 90 minutes but had little impact as Rangers comfortably controlled the match.
The physical striker was involved in the game but not in the right areas. His robust play caused minimal problems and Rangers dealt with his threat very well.
So what does that mean for Rangers reported interest in the player? The truth is, as boisterous and physical as Uche Ikpeazu is, he’s in no way influential enough on the pitch. He also doesn’t score enough goals.
Is the Englishman good enough for a move to Ibrox? The evidence suggests otherwise. If Rangers are serious about challenging Celtic for the title they need much greater quality than the Jambos striker.
