Rangers romped to a 3-1 victory against Hearts as a comfortable first-half showing set the Rangers players on their way.

It moves Rangers to within eight points of league leaders Celtic with the Ibrox club suffering only one defeat in eleven games.

It was a positive and commanding performance. As were the previous two matches against Hearts at Ibrox and Motherwell at Fir Park.

It also means Rangers have won all four of their contests with the Tynecastle club this season. Here’s how the players rated as Gerrard completed a clean sweep over the Edinburgh club this season.

Allan McGregor – 7

Unlucky to have his clean sheet breached by Steven MacLean’s second-half header. A second-half diving save from a Hearts header showed the keeper’s class. We expected nothing less.

James Tavernier – 7

A solid, defensive display from Tavernier where the player was a little more reserved than usual going forward. Nonetheless forayed forward routinely enough and looked comfortable.

Connor Goldson – 6

A little bit sloppy at times but solid nonetheless. Was lucky Craig Wighton fluffed an effort in the first half and was never entirely convincing.

Nikola Katic – 7

Took his goal well and was commanding in the air as per usual for the majority of the match. Good to see him getting a run in the team and the big Croatian plays with a lot of passion.

Jon Flanagan – 8

Making the Rangers left-back slot his own Jon Flanagan sparked Rangers into life when he won the challenge leading to Jermain Defoe’s goal. Solid at the back and did venture forward. There’s a case for the left-back slot to be his till the end of the season.

Glen Kamara – 8

Another classy and composed performance from the gangly Finnish midfielder. Always seems to take a good touch and is very calm on the ball. Chased down tackles and used the ball well. Dominated the first half.

Steven Davis – 7

Another solid performance from Davis without stealing the show. Showed some good touches and was creative with his passing without being immense. Will he soon be one of the first players on the team sheet?

Ryan Jack – 8

Took his goal extremely well and in the style in which he played this game. Very calmly and controlled. Is growing into a important player in the middle and is becoming a permanent fixture.

Scott Arfield – 7

Lots of running and energy from the Canadian captain and was creative in tight spaces once again. Fast-paced and creative but just missing the final touch to either create a goal or put one in the back of the net.

Daniel Candeias – 7

A strong showing from Candeias and put in a superb final ball for Nikola Katic’s goal. Has done well in a more central, interchangeable role with Scott Arfield and showed some strong touches.

Jermain Defoe – 8

Took his goal superbly and also linked up very well with Arfield and Candeias. Looks to be settling into the side very well and is even very in-tune with the need of the team. Can he keep Alfredo Morelos out of the side?
