Could Jermain Defoe form keep Alfredo Morelos out of Rangers side?

Jermain Defoe’s form over the last two games has shown exactly why he was brought to Rangers in January.
Intelligent, calm and oozing experience, Defoe has looked just that inch sharper recently. Both he and Steven Davis look to be settling into life at Ibrox.

Defoe didn’t score today, but he probably would’ve if he didn’t get wrongly whistled offside when through on goal. That said, he did get two assists. And whilst his good form is great news for Rangers, what about for the man watching from the sidelines?
More than just flourish in Alfredo Morelos’ absence, Rangers have looked more composed and controlled.  The Colombian hasn’t found himself at the centre of everything. The team have shown greater focus and with Defoe leading the line, have been more mature and capable.
Now, this isn’t to besmirch Alfredo Morelos, at least not his influence. The striker’s 29 goals this season have us where we are and perhaps we’d be in a worse off place without him. In the first half of the season, certainly.

But these last two games have shown us that there is life without Alfredo Morelos. And hopefully, this suspension and our performances without him takes Alfredo back down to Earth.

He’s a quality player on his day, and I do think we’d see the best of him with one more year. But he must iron out these deficiencies and stop being an unwelcome distraction on the football pitch. For both the fans and the players.
He must begin to prove that there’s progress with this on the field. But even this season the controversial striker could well struggle to win his place back on it from a Jermaine Defoe in solid form.
