In-demand manager who was ‘attracted’ to Rangers job eyes surprise interim return

Philippe Clement isn’t quite safe in his job at Rangers despite an upturn in form with one potential replacement eyeing a new job.

Results and performance have seen the manager improve his chances of keeping his place in the Ibrox hot-seat, however, the wrong results this week could leave Patrick Stewart as CEO with no choice when he starts next Monday.

One man who looks like he won’t be heading to Glasgow should Clement be disposed is Graham Potter who was ‘attracted’ to the Rangers job in the past.

Rangers linked Graham Potter eyes return

According to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, Julen Lopetegui could be sacked as West Ham United’s boss with Potter open to a return to management, even on an interim basis.

The former Chelsea boss has been linked with almost every vacant post, and ones that are still occupied, since leaving Stamford Bridge in April 2023.

Potter has almost become a better manager since being out of the game and had done the right thing waiting for a club that suits him rather following the example of Michael Beale who should have taken time to reflect after being sacked by Rangers rather than join Sunderland.

What Potter has said about being offered jobs

According to the ex-Brighton boss, who made his name taking Ostersund from Sweden’s fourth tier to the top and winning the national cup competition, he hasn’t been short of offers

”I have (turned down job offers),” confirmed Potter. “Things haven’t been right, I’ve not been ready.

”(What right looks like now) is the exciting bit. I’ve had the fortune of having a long managerial career at different levels in different countries.

”The Premier League with Brighton who I think are one of the best run football clubs in the Premier League.

”And then I had this amazing, crazy, intense experience at Chelsea, so now I’m just open to anything. I’m not shutting my doors to anything.

“I think I have to connect with the idea of what the club wants and what the people want at the club and whether it aligns with my values and what I bring and the person I am is the person they want to work with. It has to be both.”

With another set to come from a Premier League club as Lopetegui hangs to his job by a thread, Clement potentially is going to have one less big name lurking in the background wanting his.
