Rangers boss Steven Gerrard says he’ll consult with captain James Tavernier and other squad leaders regarding Jordan Jones and George Edmundson after they breached Covid-19 protocols.

The Rangers duo were caught a party in Glasgow’s west end when the police showed up and issued 10 fixed penalty notices to those in attendance.

Rangers acted swiftly to suspend the pair and have been largely commended for doing so, particularly by the Scottish government.

Now the club have sought to get out in front of this story again as Steven Gerrard spoke exclusively to RangersTV about the incident.

Saying that he wants to “draw a line under” the incident and stressing that this is now an “internal” situation, Gerrard said he’d consult with he squad’s senior players over what happens next.

“I’ve not had the chance yet to speak with James or the leadership group,” said Gerrard.

“I will be catching up with them very soon and we’ll obviously speak about it and then we’ll decide what to do from there.

“As I say it’s an international situation now that the club will deal with, the players are going to have to take their medicine and take their punishments like men.

“I’m sure at some point they’re going to have to give their teammates an explanation and then we’ll obviously focus back on the football.”

Both players risked the ire of Rangers fans after breaching the club’s Covid-19 secure bubble and potentially putting the season in jeopardy.
