Ianis Hagi was one of the heroes of the day as Rangers shot down Old Firm rivals Celtic in a stunning Scottish Premiership victory.

The Romanian playmaker, 26, has been a crucial player for Rangers in recent weeks after being recalled to the squad following the resolution of a contract dispute.

Popping up in the 7th minute to give Rangers the lead at Ibrox, Ianis Hagi scored the first of three goals in the match and put in a wonderful display off the left hand side of the attack.

Speaking to the press after the game, the Rangers playmaker insists that whilst the result is a ‘step forward’ it’s nothing without that ‘perfect’ word ‘consistency’.

Ianis Hagi wants Rangers to be ‘consistent’

“It feels good,” Ianis Hagi told Sky Sports at full-time.

“It feels good because you obviously want to win derbies. Is it a step forward for us? Indeed.

“But we know it’s three points. They’re important but we go again in three days so we got to switch on quickly, recover and get ready for the next game.

“It definitely helps (getting the early goal). Obviously with the fans playing home that definitely helps.

“I think it’s an all-round good game for us for 90 minutes. You can start well and finish really bad.

“I think we were consistent and I think that’s the perfect word for us moving forward.

“We have to be consistent for 90 minutes and when do that then we are a good football team.”

Rangers playmaker dedicates goal to Gheorghe Hagi

Ianis Hagi’s father Gheorghe Hagi was also in attendance at Ibrox as Rangers ran out 3-0 winners over Celtic.

The legendary Romanian had been outspoken about the situation with his son at Rangers as Hagi looked to get back into the team in the summer.

Speaking about his old man come full-time, Hagi dedicated his first Old Firm goal to Gheorghe and the rest of his family.

“It’s all about them,” said Hagi when asked about scoring in front of his father. “It’s all about my family.

“They’ve been really close obviously over the summer. My father obviously a couple of times he had his opinion regarding the situation.

“He knew everything that went behind the scenes and it’s a goal for him. I’m really happy.

”It’s his second time for him at Ibrox, the last time it was the Braga game and everyone remembers that so hopefully he can come more often.”
