Rangers welcomed two icons to Ibrox this afternoon as they faced Celtic in the Premiership.

Ianis Hagi delighted supporters with the opening goal in the clash with what was a brilliant strike from outside the box.

The playmaker was back in the starting XI after missing Motherwell as well as Hamza Igamane and Vaclav Cerny.

It was an effort even his Dad would have been chuffed with.

And the mercurial Romanian attacker was able to score it right in front of the former Real Madrid and Barcelona superstar and celebrate with a point towards his father in the stands.

But it was not just Hagi who was watching on from the expensive seats.

Premier League and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer also drank in the action with his entourage as Philippe Clement looked to earn three massive points in the division to end a two match slump.

Newcastle hero Alan Shearer attended Rangers vs Celtic

Shearer has always hoped to visit Ibrox on derby day after admitting previously he had never been able to make it up north to watch the Old Firm match in person.

However pictures emerged from before kick-off of the Geordie in the empty stands before he would take his seat for the 90 minutes.

The 54-year-old retired attacker – who scored 260 goals in England’s top flight over the span of his illustrious career – has always wanted to watch the game.

And he recently praised the atmosphere in Glasgow, despite never catching this fixture in particular, as he addressed whether or not Rangers or Celtic would ever move away from Scottish football to ply their trade in the EPL.

What Alan Shearer has said about Rangers vs Celtic

He previously said: “The atmosphere in those grounds is amazing.

“The support they have around the world is fantastic, so they are two giant clubs.

“Absolutely, it would be brilliant if they could be in the Premier League. But I don’t think we are ever going to see it – it’s never going to happen.”

On the fixture itself he also had said: “We know that most of the time in Scotland, it’s Rangers vs Celtic, and whoever wins, it’s unacceptable for the other.

“But for Rangers to be that far behind after eight games means I would say they are out of the title race.”

Rangers did not seem to need leaders James Tavernier or Jack Butland despite what Clement told his squad, which was a positive.
