Rangers are in the middle of a winter clear out with Philippe Clement seeing players of all ages and ability leaving the club.

Several B team players have left on loan, with Kieran Dowell joining Birmingham City ahead of what could be a much-needed trimming of the wage bill.

The squad looked thin against Man Utd and Dundee Utd, but the academy has shown that they can provide the manager with players who can make a difference for Rangers.

Ianis Hagi offered new Rangers contract

What these youngsters need though, is proven experience, leaders who have been there and got the t-shirt and few are better placed than Ianis Hagi to lend a helping hand.

The Romania international is out of contract at the end of the season, however, he is reported to be happy in Glasgow and Rangers have offered a new deal, according to Heart and Hand’s David Edgar.

Hagi has been a key figure for Clement since returning to the starting XI and his versatility across the forward line is missed when he isn’t available.

Losing him would lead to another frustrating episode where a valuable asset leaves for nothing.

Hagi happy after rollercoaster five years at Rangers

Speaking ahead of his recent five-year anniversary of signing for Rangers, Hagi is clearly a player who appreciates what he has got:

“There are challenges that lie ahead of you in your football career and it’s about, those moments define you.

“So, you either pass them through or not.

“I definitely decided to always accept the challenge that’s ahead of me and try to find ways to go past them.

“Luckily I’m in a position now where I can say that I came through that part well and that I’m in a happy position.

“I’m enjoying my football, I feel like I’m a better player, a better person, compared to five years ago.

“There’s still so much more to learn, I still feel like I have so much more to give on that football pitch so things are looking really clear for me right now.”
