A Rangers move for Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell has been ruled out by a prominent journalist.
Alan Nixon responded to questions on Powell via Twitter, saying that he doesn’t think Powell will be “going to Scotland”.

The same journalist reported that Rangers were very much interested in Powell earlier this month. It appears that he is in the know with the player’s situation so perhaps any proposed interest has gone cold.
Given the midfielder’s good form and the fact he’s available on a free, Rangers might see this an opportunity missed.
The former Manchester United man was tipped to do great things in the game when he earned his Old Trafford move as a teenager. Still only 25, the midfielder could’ve been well equipped to handle the expectation at Ibrox.
Now plying his trade with Wigan, Powell has had a productive season for the Greater Manchester club. The former Crewe Alexandra man has seven goals and seven assists in 30 appearances this year.

Rangers have been in need of a creative midfield presence who can chip in with goals all season. Nick Powell certainly fits the bill and a move for the player would’ve been a solid acquisition.
As it stands Rangers’ interest in the player appears to have gone cold. But anything can happen between now and the start of next season.
