Prominent football journalist Alan Nixon has claimed Rangers are very much interested in securing the services of Wigan midfielder Nick Powell.
The sportswriter claims Rangers are still on the hunt for the player, whose contract expires at the end of the season. It means Rangers could secure the player on a free.

It’s an interesting prospect for Rangers fans. Powell would help fill that creative void in midfield, would potentially relish the chance to work with Steven Gerrard, and has good numbers to back it all up.
The attacking midfielder has scored six goals and laid on a further seven in only 25 appearances this season. It’s a feat made more impressive when you consider Wigan are a newly promoted side in an immensely competitive league.
The player was also one time of Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson signed the player as a teenager for a deal worth up to £6m.
Powell was also an established England youth international. There’s plenty of promise here, and he certainly doesn’t offer the same controversy of another Manchester United youth we were linked to in January.
Still only 25, there’s also plenty of room to grow for the player. Powell has also experienced the pressure of playing at a big club. The hope is that he has learned from it and he will be comfortable playing with that expectation at Ibrox.

Should any interest be true, and Rangers manage to secure the signature of Nick Powell, it’d be a very strong signing indeed.
Perhaps even more so than this former Germany international said to be interesting Steven Gerrard.
Would you take the player at Ibrox?
