Former Rangers star Shota Arveladze is being linked with a return to the United Kingdom as the Georgian is mentioned alongside the Hull City manager’s job.

The ex-Ibrox striker – who has just had a hugely successful spell in charge of Uzbekistani side Pakhtakor Tashkent – has been reportedly earmarked as part of a £50m takeover bid.

Turkish businessman Acun Ilicali is currently in talks to buy the club from Assem Allam and according to Fanatik he wants Arveladze, 48, as the manager to kickstart his reign.

This comes with Arveladze having previously managed in Turkey with Kayserispor, Kasimpasa and Tabzonspor.

Hull City released a statement at the end of October amid much media speculation surrounding the takeover claiming a period of “due diligence” was taking place.

According to Hull Live, a takeover deal has been agreed in principle with the initial fee around £30m with another £20m to be paid if the club can reach the Premier League within a certain timeframe.

Current manager Grant McCann helped the Tigers to promotion last season but this campaign the side are 23rd in the Championship and currently on a five-game losing streak.

If reports are to be believed, the Turkish group looking to take over at Hull believe that Arveladze is the man to stop the rot.

Hull City reportedly interested in ex-Rangers star Shota Arveladze

In the former striker’s previous role, Arveladze dominated Uzbek football, winning a domestic treble in 2019 and adding a league and cup double in 2020.

The manager would then step down from the role in December last year and should the reported Hull City interest materialise, this would be his first professional spell in the UK since leaving Ibrox in 2005.

Shota Arveladze spent four years at Ibrox during his playing career, winning two SPL titles, two Scottish Cups and a Scottish League Cup between 2001 and 2005.

The forward also turned out for Dinamo Tbilisi, Trabzonspor, Ajax, AZ Alkmaar and Levante in his playing career with Pakhtakor Tashkent the fifth side he has managed.

The man who replaced Arveladze at Pakhtakor Tashkent is also an ex-Rangers player as the Uzbek club keep the Rangers connection going.
