Former Rangers striker Shota Arveladze has left his managerial role at Pakhtakor Tashkent on a high after guiding the side to five trophies in the last two years.

Arveladze, 47, secured the Uzbekistan Super League and Uzbekistani Cup double after guiding the side to a treble only the season previously.

Taking to Instagram, Arveladze said:

“Three years have passed. Today I resign my position at Pakhtakor.

“I’m grateful for three exciting, beautiful and successful years. Thank you to the fans, the team, players, stuff and to all who have supported us.

I would like to thank Bobur Shodiev, Ulugbek Mukhamedov, Dmitry Adisman and the Pakhtakor board for the opportunity to have managed this club.

“The owners, whom have tried so hard to bring success. We had to try and bring through younger players, and recruit them too, and on top of that we wanted to change the style of play quite a lot too.

“I wish club to continue winning and to get just stronger. I am no longer Pakhtakor manager, but I am still a big fan of theirs.

“It’s been a great experience for me and life here has been fantastic. We were a great team and I will never forget you.”

Arveladze spent four years at Ibrox during his playing career, winning two SPL titles, two Scottish Cups and a Scottish League Cup between 2001 and 2005.

The forward also turned out for Dinamo Tbilisi, Trabzonspor, Ajax, AZ Alkmaar and Levante in his playing career with Pakhtakor Tashkent the fifth side he has managed.

Arveladze had spells in charge of Turkish sides Kayserispor, Kasımpaşa and Trabzonspor as well as Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv before taking charge in Uzbekistan in 2017.

Who knows what the future holds for the former Ibrox striker, but some fans have even tipped the ex-forward to return to Rangers one day as manager.
