‘Huge’ – Kris Boyd ponders where Rangers would be without one key figure

Rangers and their players are beginning to get collective and individual praise after their recent form.

It is now four wins on the trot which is definitely an improvement on what went before, and that includes an impressive away dismantling of Nice and knocking six past Kilmarnock.

Yesterday it was Ross County on the receiving end of a three goal defeat as Gers kept a clean sheet for the third Premiership match in a row.

Hamza Igamane was on the scoresheet again to make it four in his last four after emerging as a serious starting option, probably now ahead of Cyriel Dessers.

He has been lauded since yesterday’s game, former Gers midfielder Derek Ferguson labelling his display ‘nothing short of brilliant’.

While manager Philippe Clement got in on the praise of the young Moroccan, branding him “incredible” and a “bright light.”

James Tavernier is another to have been singled out by Clement and teammate John Souttar.

Where would Rangers be without Vaclav Cerny?

Now, Vaclav Cerny is being included in the list of Rangers players to be lauded for their display.

The Czech winger has been a shining light for weeks now, even before the run of wins and is one of the team’s biggest attacking threats.

His output in terms of goals and assists has been good and that has led Kris Boyd to wonder where exactly the club would be if not for Cerny.

He told Sky Sports: “Cerny, for me, sometimes you think to yourself where would Rangers be if it wasn’t for him.

“I know its not been a great season for Rangers so far but you look at his impact and what he has brought to this Rangers team, it’s been huge.”

Cerny puts up big Rangers numbers

Not quite at the half-way point of the season, Vaclav Cerny has nine Rangers goals and five assists so far.

Those strikes has the Wolfsburg loanee sitting as the club’s second top scorer at the moment, behind Cyriel Dessers with 12.

And he has the most assists, level on five with James Tavernier.

The total of 16 goal contributions means he is joint top in terms of overall goal contributions alongside Dessers, who has four assists on top of his 12 goals.

Therefore, it is a legitimate question from Boyd but it also shows what a good signing it has been from Ibrox chiefs.

The chances of keeping him permanently may not be high though as Philippe Clement discussed that recently.

He said: “It’s something we need (loans) for the moment because we don’t have the money to buy Vaclav for the moment now or we didn’t have the money to buy Abdallah (Sima) at that moment.

“We need to see and we need to try every year to have one player less on loan and one player more that’s an asset for the club because we’re going to have a similar situation at the end of the season in that way and Abdallah wanted to stay here, loved to stay here, but of course other teams are also interested and in one moment he chooses also for his career, for his wages, for everything.”
