John Souttar put in yet another big performance for Rangers as the Ibrox side kept another clean sheet in the win over Ross County.
The Rangers defender, 28, has been one of the club’s most consistent performers this season and was once again crucial to the 3-0 victory in Dingwall.
Such has been Souttar’s immense performances for club and country, there’s been plenty of talk around a new contract at Ibrox.
And with John Souttar facing the Sky Sports cameras come full-time, the defender was asked about the situation at Rangers as it currently stands.
Philippe Clement in John Souttar contract hint
Philippe Clement had stoked the conversation around John Souttar ahead of the clash with Ross County.
The Rangers manager claimed that an offer for Souttar is ‘on the table’ at Ibrox with the defender very much crucial to his future plans.
Clement has also hailed Souttar’s progress this season, claiming the Rangers star has been the club’s ’best defender’ this campaign.
“It’s on the table and it’s progressed when things are arranged,” said Clement when asked about the chances of a new contract for Souttar.
“So that’s not the case yet. So, we will see what’s going to happen next couple of months.
”He still has more than one year and a half to go. But he knows that I’m happy with the evolution he made and it shows also in his play.
“For sure he’s been our best defender this season, the most regular one in our team. And he progressed really well.
“Not only in his duels, what he had before already, but he became stronger in that, but also in his handling of the ball.”
“And he made a really, really big progression in that way. So we still see things that we can make better, that we want to make better together.
”He’s also critical in that way with himself. But I’m really happy with what he’s been showing in total.”
Rangers star responds to Sky Sports contract poser
Those comments from Philippe Clement led to Sky Sports asking John Souttar about a new Rangers contract come full time.
The broadcaster quizzed the Scotland international on his situation in Glasgow but the defender was giving little away.
“Look as I say I am focusing on game by game,” Souttar told Sky Sports. “Whatever happens, that’ll happen.
”But yeah I am focusing on doing whatever I can game by game and seeing where it takes me.”
