Rangers have set their sights on a ‘high-calibre individual’ to takeover as chairman after talks with Conservative peer Malcolm Offord stalled.
The Ibrox side had targeted Offord, who holds the title of Lord Offord of Garvel in the House of Lords, to take over from John Bennett as the club’s permanent chairman.
Rangers have been on the hunt for a new chairman since September, when John Bennett stepped down from the role due to health reasons.
But the hunt goes on as Rangers fail to reach an agreement with Malcolm Offord, who had initially been expected to take over from interim chair John Gilligan.

Malcolm Offord won’t be Rangers chairman
The Rangers Review and Chris Jack are reporting that Rangers’ proposed move for Malcolm Offord has now fallen through.
Whilst the report does not go into details as to the reasons why, the Gers are now believed to have moved on from the former Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Business and Trade.
It means Rangers will likely be heading into Thursday’s AGM without news of a successor to John Bennett and some uncertainty in the hierarchy of the club.
The Rangers Review report says that Rangers are undeterred by the situation with Malcolm Offord and are quickly turning their attentions elsewhere.
It’s said the club expect the appointment to be made in the ‘coming weeks’ with a ‘high-calibre individual’ to be handed the reins.
Rangers reshape Ibrox executive board
The new comes after Rangers officially unveiled Patrick Stewart as the club’s new CEO, with the ex-Manchester United chief set to come into the role on December 16th.
Patrick Stewart replaces the outgoing James Bisgrove, who jumped shipped from Rangers to Saudi Arabia just before the chaotic Hampden relocation in the summer.
It is believed that the appointment of the CEO is more pertinent than that of the chairman, with Aberdeen-born legal eagle Stewart set to be given command of Ibrox.
Rangers still have a number of key executive roles which are lying vacant at the top of the club.
Rangers director of recruitment Nils Koppen has moved into a technical director role following the exit of Creag Robertson as director of football operations.
The Ibrox side are also without an academy director after the talented Zeb Jacobs moved to Feyenoord in the summer.
