A distasteful flyer involving an image of Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous screaming at Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos has been attached to a charity foodbank collection for Hibs fans at Easter Road.

Whilst the Helping Hands group deserve every credit for their rally to raise food amongst the Hibs support, the inappropriate choice of image is turning heads.

It is nothing to do with the charity involved, nor the two sides playing on the date of the drive (7th December Hibs v Aberdeen).

It also shows Ryan Porteous shouting “don’t forget the foodbank collection” at Alfredo Morelos.

Whilst it’s clear that those running the group didn’t intend any malice, other than any usual anti-Rangers baiting, they have been incredibly insensitive.

There are unsettling undertones to the image and it is undoubtedly inappropriate given the nature of what it is trying to promote.

Is this image supposed to inspire people to donate more to the foodbank?

It feels unnecessarily aggressive, potentially offensive and incredibly out of place.

It’s not the first time this image of Ryan Porteous screaming over Rangers striker Morelos has been used by Hibs fans either.

Rangers fans goaded both the defender and the Easter Road club’s support for celebrating a painting of the image last season.

The photograph is taken from a match between the two sides in December 2018 at Easter Road which ended 0-0.
