Haunting Philippe Clement comments that have Rangers fans demanding answers

Rangers fans feel they are in a never-ending cycle right now.

Like previous bosses, Philippe Clement was a breath of fresh air when stepping into the Ibrox hotseat and definitely had the club moving in the right direction, and pretty quickly too.

But after around a year in charge, there are concerns with some Gers fans questioning Clement and starting to turn on him and a feeling of ‘inevitability’ about the outcome.

It feels all to similar to what happened with Michael Beale before him and Giovanni van Bronckhorst before him.

What Clement said about Rangers being better in October

Ahead the season kicking off with an away game at Hearts, there were some concerns about the squad building and the signings the club had in place.

There were expectations of a big squad rebuild and while it did happen to an extent, there was perhaps not the volume of first-team ready signings fans had been expecting, certainly at that point with players like Nedim Bajrami and Neraysho Kasanwirjo coming afterwards.

But the manager moved to allay the fears and insisted his squad would gradually get better. In fact he stuck his neck out and said he was “200 per cent sure” it would happen by October.

His August comments, as per Rangers Review were: “It is difficult to use the right words. I am 200 percent sure we will be much better in October, November and December and the months coming after.

“That is normal if you see how many players have left and joined, how many young players we have brought in who still need to learn things. In that way it is a squad with a lot of potential, more than last season with the things we still want to do.

“Does it mean tomorrow we will see the best Rangers better than last season? I think you will see some interesting things, I am confident about that. We are not there yet at our best, no. That’s asking the impossible.”

Are Rangers better by October?

Well, it is now October so it is the perfect chance to rate whether the reality matches up with the manager’s claims.

Quite simply, it is hard to back him up in any way. Yesterday’s defeat to Kilmarnock has widely been accepted by fans and Rangers pundits alike as being as poor a display as they’ve seen.

Worse, it leaves Gers six points behind Celtic AND Aberdeen at this early stage with neither of them showing signs of slowing up their form.

Clement’s side have scored just ONE away goal this season which is their worst at the stage for many a year and also currently the worst in the league, which is way below acceptable.

The fact that the worst performance of the season has come in late October certainly goes against his belief that things would be getting much better by now.
