Former Rangers striker Greg Stewart has signed for Kilmarnock following his release from Indian club Mumbai City.
The ex-Gers forward, 33, has been turning out in the tropical sub-continent since leave Ibrox in 2021, first at Jamshedour before joining the City Group club a year later.
Following his release from the Mumbai side – cited as “mutual termination” in an official statement – Stewart is now back in Scotland and has secured a transfer to former side Kilmarnock.
Rangers signed Greg Stewart on a free contract after the expiration of his deal at Birmingham City in 2019, the striker having spent the season previously on loan at Rugby Park and then Pittodrie with Aberdeen.
Greg Stewart signs for Kilmarnock
In an official statement, Killie haven’t given away how long the deal is for but the signing of Greg Stewart is a sizeable boost to manager Derek McInnes and his squad.
After adding former Dundee United, Celtic, and Hearts winger Gary Mackay-Steven to the Ayrshire ranks during the week, Kilmarnock manager McInnes had lamented a lack of striking options.
The former Rangers midfielder has been outspoken about a “dearth” of number nine options in modern football after a switch away from the traditional 4-4-2 formation.
For Kilmarnock, Greg Stewart looks like a very shrewd addition given their chase for European football and heady ambitions in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Derek McInnes has done a very impressive job at Rugby Park with the club in 4th, five points off Hearts in 3rd having played a game more.
Ex-Rangers striker back in Scottish Premiership
Rangers fans will be glad to see Greg Stewart back in the Scottish Premiership but will be hoping the talented forward doesn’t come back to haunt the Ibrox club this season.
A boyhood bluenose, Stewart lived the dream over two years in Glasgow even if he struggled to break into Steven Gerrard’s side at the time.

Having joined on a low-risk free contract transfer, the striker made 33 appearances for the Ibrox club, scoring three goals and laying on seven assists.
Stewart’s time in India was a success, the forward netting 26 goals across three seasons and winning the Indian Super League with both Jamshedpur and Mumbai City.
The striker can add the medals to the Scottish Premiership one he picked up at Rangers in 2021 when the club lifted 55.
