On New Years Day, two individuals with Rangers connections went head-to-head in English football’s third tier.
Rangers loanee, Greg Docherty’s Shrewsbury Town, took on ex-Ger, Joey Barton’s, Fleetwood Town.
The result? A 0-0 draw.

Docherty’s strong performances for the Shrews have been well documented. However, while Rangers are said to be pleased with his progress, he is reportedly set to stay at New Meadow until the end of the season.
Barton’s time at Rangers ended controversially, due to a betting scandal.
Yet, his first experience of senior management has been relatively positive, if surprisingly unremarkable. His side currently sit eleventh in League One, right in the middle of the pack.
They have also progressed to the FA Cup Third Round.
It seems that for once, the scouser is keeping his head down.

On Tuesday, despite languishing 17th in the table, Shrewsbury dominated this contest.
Docherty played the 90 minutes and helped his side muster 16 shots on the visitor’s goal, but was unable to add to his tally of seven goals so far this season.
He did pick up a yellow card though, just his fourth of the campaign.

For Fleetwood, another Gers loanee, Jason Holt, was an unused substitute.
Unlike Docherty, he has failed to make his mark in League One, despite substantial game time.
