Former Rangers star Steven Naismith has heaped praise on young starlet Alex Lowry, following his loan move to Hearts.
The 20-year-old is highly rated at Ibrox, and has now joined the fellow SPFL side in order to continue his development.
Hearts technical director Naismith, who knows a thing or two about playing in attacking midfield for Rangers, has praised the youngster, claiming that he can have an immediate impact at Tynecastle Park.
“Alex will be a great addition to our squad, which is really starting to take shape,” Naismith stated.
“He’s a very technical player and is direct in terms of attacking, so he will complement the team well in the final third. Being a Scottish player he has a great understanding of this club and he’s already experienced playing at Tynecastle, so knows exactly what to expect.
“If everything goes to plan then he’ll be involved with the group straightaway.”
Long-term plan for Lowry
A loan spell playing regularly in the top flight and possibly the Europa Conference League for Hearts will benefit Lowry’s development, as he aims to take the next step up in his career.

It is clear that the club value him as a long-term talent, but with the likes of Kieran Dowell and Jose Cifuentes arriving in midfield this summer, opportunities at Ibrox looked limited.
A loan was therefore the best option, and Rangers will definitely be keeping a close eye on his progress, and should he perform well, he could even be integrated to the first team next season.
His technical ability, as well as his end product, stood out at youth level, and he has the potential to become the best product from the Rangers youth academy in a number of years.
It is now down to Lowry to earn his place in the Hearts side, and prove to Michael Beale why he should be considered a long-term option for the Gers.
