Those Rangers links to Greek Super League winger Luis Palma are back in the press this week despite the Ibrox side announcing a season-long loan deal for Brighton attacker Abdallah Sima.

Greek football journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos, who was at the centre of the reports earlier in the summer, mentioned Rangers in an update about Luis Palma this week.

Chorianopoulos is claiming that the preference of current club Aris is to sell Luis Palma outside of the Greek Super League, with the journalist mentioning a proposed bid from Rangers earlier in the window.

This comes amid strong interest from Aris’ Greek Super League rivals AEK Athens, whilst the likes of Serie B Parma and Belgian side Anderlecht have also been mentioned.

Whilst Chorianopoulos makes no suggestion that Rangers remain interested, the claims made their way into the Daily Record, who refuted any suggestion the Ibrox side still want to complete a deal.

“Aris have reportedly made it their priority to sell forward Luis Palma abroad this summer,” according to the Daily Record’s transfer blog [17:08, 04/07]. “Record Sport understands that the Honduras international is not currently on Michael Beale’s radar.

“Anderlecht are also touted as an interested party. AEK are keen on a deal – but Aris are said to be unwilling to sell to a rival club in Greece.”

The conversation around Luis Palma comes after Rangers signed left-sided attacker Abdallah Sima on loan from Brighton until the end of the season.

Rangers boss Michael Beale broke his own rule by striking a short-term deal for the former Slavia Prague attacker, for whom the Premier League Seagulls reportedly paid £7m in 2021.

There are big things expected of the Senegalese international in the game and Rangers will hope to harness the 22-year-old’s potential next season.

But what the move likely means is that Rangers are no longer in for a left-sided attacking player with the deal potentially spelling curtains for any Ibrox links to Luis Palma.
