Glen Kamara may be eyeing a Rangers recall after Steven Gerrard waxed lyrical about the midfielder’s display in Finland’s win over the Republic of Ireland [Rangers.co.uk].
Kamara earned rave reviews from Gers supporters for his stellar international display on Sunday evening, as Finland bounced back from a defeat to Wales in their opening Nations League fixture.
The 24-year-old bossed the midfield area in Dublin, showing composure on the ball and a willingness to initiate attacks.
It was a timely return to form for a player who has been omitted from the starting XI for Rangers’ last two fixtures.
His manager was clearly keeping an eye on him last week, though, and he has praised his player for looking a class apart.
“Glen Kamara was ‘Man of the Match’ and I thought he was head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch,” said Gerrard, as quoted by Rangers.co.uk.
The manager also had praise for ‘fantastic’ Northern Ireland skipper, Steven Davis, who equalled his country’s all-time caps record.
Yet, Ryan Jack didn’t have his best outing for Scotland in the draw with Israel and was dropped to the bench for the following fixture against the Czech Republic.
As a result, Kamara could fancy his chances of returning to the Gers XI against Dundee United on Saturday.
The ex-Arsenal academy player has been criticised for a perceived negative approach in possession in club fixtures so far this season, but he showed how impressive he can be at the weekend when he is afforded a little extra freedom.
With three internationals to choose from and only two spots to fill, it will be interesting to see how Gerrard goes.
