Rangers boss Steven Gerrard waxed lyrical about the Gers defensive commander-in-chief Connor Goldson as he praised the progress the centre-back has made this season.
Goldson, 28, has played every minute for Rangers so far this season and Steven Gerrard fully believes the defender is in the form of his life.
Beaming with pride about the progress the big ball-playing defender is making – at both ends of the pitch – Gerrard paid tribute to one of Rangers’ key players this season.
“I think Connor’s certainly been outstanding since the first day of the season, really playing the best form of his career so far,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“He’s showing incredible leadership on and off the pitch alongside James and the other lads.
“His passing has gone to the next level – he’s worked on it, he has got the diag in the bag no problem, he can play the direct one over the top, he can break the lines with his passing.
“He also knows when to do it and how to do it which is something we’ve tried to work on with the player to help him develop and grow.
“But Connor’s put the work in and we’re really proud of the level he’s playing at, at the moment.”
Gerrard’s comments about Goldson taking his game to the next level are further evidence of the development in the big centre-half this season.
Goldson is a huge player for the club and has been a pivotal part of our success so far this season, his defensive performances contributing massively to 20 clean sheets this season.
On top of that, the ex-Brighton man – who is in his third season at Ibrox since joining for a reported £3.5m in 2018 – has been kickstarting attacks and contributing in the final third.
Goldson’s long raking passes over the top are a big facet of the club’s game whilst the defender is a nuisance at set-pieces, scoring five goals already this season including a double v Celtic.
It’s little wonder the big centre-half was recently named as Rangers’ most valuable player with football market analysts 21st club rating the defender at £18m [the Athletic].
