St Pauli sporting director Andreas Bornemann has shot down rumours linking the Bundesliga 2 club with a move for Rangers attacker and Zambia international Fashion Sakala.

According to Football Scotland, who have direct quotes from Bornemann, the St Pauli director was referring to Rangers forward Fashion Sakala when he ruled out certain rumours.

Whilst there has been no concrete reporting on the subject, the Scottish digital tabloid appears to claim that there are rumours swirling regarding potential German interest in the Zambian.

Football Scotland are claiming any suggestion St Pauli are interested is incorrect with Bornemann referencing “wild topics” and the tabloid shooting down alleged murmurs of Fashion Sakala interest.

“Speculation is part of the game,” Andreas Bornemann said. “There is a lot going on in the football rumour mill these days.

“It’s amazing what’s supposedly going on! In fact, we’ve had a few wild topics recently.

“For example, just because we had previously looked to the UK for Jackson Irvine and Oladapo Afolayan, people now suspect links there more often.

“It’s true that during this period, agents increasingly contact us and offer us players, but we prefer to search ourselves.”

Fashion Sakala in Zambia AFCON boost amid St Pauli chatter

The links between Rangers attacker Fashion Sakala and St Pauli come as the Zambia international helps his nation to qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

The attacker is a key player for the country – despite some recent run-ins with supporters – and played 89 minutes as the Chipolopolo recorded an impressive 3-0 win over the Ivory Coast to make the tournament, which is, rather confusingly, to be held in the Ivory Coast.

It does mean that Rangers could lose the player for some pivotal matches at the end of January going into February but for Fashion Sakala it will be a wonderful experience to be involved.

The attacker has been a solid and effective squad option for Rangers, even if wasteful in some big moments, and at 26-years-old is coming into a key moment in his career.

Fashion Sakala’s solid output of twelve goals and seven assists in the Scottish Premiership last season was impressive, but now the St Pauli-linked attacker must take his game to the next level.
