Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has praised summer signing George Edmundson, admitting he’s “putting a helluva fight up” for a starting berth.
The Rangers manager was speaking after Edmundson impressed against Progres Niederkorn in midweek.
And Gerrard believes that regardless of the former Oldham man’s transfer fee, the shirt is up for grabs if he shows enough to win it.

“We set the challenge to the players on day one,” said Rangers boss Gerrard, as quoted by the Herald.
“When new players come in, we remind them that every shirt is up for grabs. It doesn’t matter whether you cost X amount or you come cheap or you come free, the shirts are up for grabs on a regular basis.
“If you’ve got it, it’s yours to lose. If you haven’t got it, it’s yours to fight for. George is putting a helluva fight up.
“For a lad of 21, it was a very strong performance from him, very dominant. You can see he is very quick.
“I thought he was outstanding for the majority of the game. He gives me some thinking to do but I welcome that.”
It’s high praise indeed from the Gers gaffer and echoes sentiments about the club’s desire to sign the young Englishman.

The 21-year-old is physical, committed and loves a tackle, but is also comfortable with the ball at his feet and can pick a pass.
It’s early days but you can really see George Edmundson developing into a cult hero for the Ibrox faithful.
And under Steven Gerrard, it looks like he’ll get the chance to do so.
