Rangers centre-back George Edmundson might’ve won the adulation of supporters last night, but he’s had a host of fans at Ibrox for quite some time.
The 21-year-old defender showed against Progres why Rangers were so determined to sign him from Oldham in the summer, despite having numerous bids rejected.
Young, English and with a potentially astronomical resale value, Edmundson looks a very tidy, no-nonsense defender who’s also comfortable on the ball.

What’s more, he’s commanding (enough) in the air and showed a real turn of pace yesterday.
There’s a maturity about his game, and for £700k both Nikola Katic and Filip Helander will need to stay on their toes to keep him out of the side.
Steven Gerrard, Mark Allen and the Rangers recruitment team clearly identified Edmundson as someone who’d fit in at Ibrox.
His crashing tackles and steely commitment make him the perfect candidate for this season’s cult hero, whilst his classy play with both feet and eye for a pass could see him develop into a real asset.
Rangers did their homework on George Edmundson and for all the Ojos and Aribos signed this summer, the defender was just as big a priority.
The club are now superbly well stocked at centre-half, with Connor Goldson the undisputed first choice in the position.

Naturally, Filip Helander should fill the berth beside him given he is a Swedish international and cost the club £3m [RangersTV].
But Edmundson is proving to both Helander and Katic that he is more than capable of taking their place should they slack off.
And exactly why Rangers were so determined to sign him this summer.
