Former Rangers hero Gennaro Gattuso has been sacked by Valencia amid a run of poor results and a bust-up with an invasive cameraman.
The Italian World Cup winner is famed for his fiery temperament on and off the pitch and the midfielder was forced to apologise after lashing out at a photographer mid conversation with frustrated Valencia supporters.
This was after the former AC Milan and Napoli manager overseen his side’s latest defeat, losing 1-0 to Real Valladolid at home in La Liga.
The result leaves Valencia in 14th place in the Spanish top flight, with Gennaro Gattuso winning only five of his 18 league games and lasting only seven months in the job.
“Valencia CF announces that this Monday, January 30, the club and the first team coach, Gennaro Gattuso, have decided by mutual agreement to end the contractual relationship that united the Italian coach with the VCF,” reads a Valencia statement.
“The Club wants to thank the coach for his commitment and work in these months in charge of the first team and wish him the best of luck in his future.
“The team will return to training this Tuesday, January 31, under the orders of ‘Voro’ Gonzalez.”
Gennaro Gattuso sacked at Valencia
This comes after Gennaro Gattuso was filmed clashing with a cameraman after the latest Valencia defeat.
Amid a feisty confrontation with fans at the airport, the manager lashed out at a watching cameraman and has since apologised for the incident.
Gennaro Gattuso played for Rangers for one season in 1997/98.
Still a teenager at the time, the midfielder was sold on to Salerntina when Dick Advocaat took charge and the rest is history.
Spending 13 years at AC Milan afterwards, the midfielder is famed for his Champions League winning exploits in Italy and also lifting the 2006 World Cup with his country.
Meanwhile, here’s the latest on Rangers’ pursuit of Morgan Whittaker.
