Championship outfits Hull City and Birmingham City have joined the race for Rangers’ Northern Ireland international star Jordan Jones, according to reports.
According to the Daily Record, the pair have joined Stoke City, Middlesbrough and Blackburn in the hunt for the pacey wide man bringing the total number of clubs interested to five.
The report also claims that whilst Rangers are willing to arrange a loan deal for the remainder of the season, it must be with an intention to buy come the end of the campaign.
Jones’ future at Rangers has been the topic of much debate in this transfer window with the winger routinely linked with the exit door since December.
Stoke City have generally been considered one of the frontrunners with earlier reports suggesting the Ulster international Jones is being considered for a reunion with NI boss Michael O’Neill at the Britannia [Daily Mail].
Jones and fellow winger Barker were then reportedly told that they had no future at Ibrox [Daily Record] and that they’re to be shipped out in this transfer window.
Should Jordan Jones move on from Rangers, it will be a considerable blow to the player who spoke about his excitement for joining the club in the summer.
Signing a four-year pre-contract deal last January, Jones joined Rangers after impressing over three years with Kilmarnock.
But following his red card and resultant injury against Celtic in September, the winger spent four months on the sidelines and there is a real feeling that he’s now surplus to requirements.
That said, Jones did come off the bench in the 2-0 win over Ross County where he replaced Steven Davis after 74 minutes.
The 25-year-old has made 12 appearances in total this season.
