Rangers have been linked with a loan move for Liverpool youngster Herbie Kane in a transfer which on the surface makes little sense.
The interest is being reported by Football Insider, who claim “Ibrox sources” have told them Gerrard wants the goalscoring midfielder for next season.
Kane, who spent last season on Doncaster Rovers, might be a good player and all, but do Rangers really need him at Ibrox?

The Ibrox club have a host of talented midfielders on the books currently and even the highly-rated Kane could struggle to get a game.
The likes of Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield, Greg Docherty and Steven Davis have been joined by Joe Aribo for the new campaign.
Matt Polster and Andy Halliday are also capable of playing in the position, whilst Steven Gerrard has used Jamie Barjonas throughout pre-season.

It then makes little sense for Liverpool to send him to Ibrox. The 20-year-old’s development is not well served sitting on the Ibrox bench.
Kane, who played 49 times for Doncaster last season scoring seven goals and laying on a further ten, is also unlikely to move without first-team assurances.

Whilst some might be claiming Herbie Kane is interesting the Rangers backroom staff, it’s a move which Rangers do not appear to need.
And on the surface, neither does Herbie Kane.
In other news, Rangers have admitted they’ve got their eye on another Liverpool youth, but this one has travelled to America with Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
