Rangers “expect” Brighton loanee Abdallah Sima to play a part in the season’s title run-in with his recovery from injury “going well”.
That’s according to Heart & Hand host and ex-Rangers media partner David Edgar, who made the claim on the platform’s most recent Daily Update (05/03).
David Edgar was summarising the club’s injury situation whilst discussing the news that influential playmaker Todd Cantwell is close to a return for Rangers.
Abdallah Sima – who scored 15 goals in the first half of the season at Ibrox – hasn’t been seen since sustaining a devastating injury whilst on duty with Senegal at the AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Abdallah Sima on course for injury return
Speaking about Abdallah Sima’s injury situation, David Edgar explains that Rangers are very happy with the progress the 22-year-old is making.
Back in January when he sustained the injury, Philippe Clement had claimed it would take around two to three months for the player to return and it appears he is very much on course.
“Abdallah Sima’s recovery from his injury is going well,” said David Edgar. “I would expect to see him this season, I don’t know when.
“I don’t think you can really put a time or a date on it at the moment because his recovery is going really well and they’re very pleased with it.
“They do expect to have him as an option this season. Whether or not it’ll be this month, I don’t know, but fingers crossed he will at least be able to play a part for Rangers in the run-in.”
Rangers signed Abdallah Sima on a season long loan deal from Premier League club Brighton, who signed the forward from Slavia Prague for over £6m back in 2021
The sounds from within Rangers and from within the player’s camp is that he wants a permanent switch to Glasgow and a strong end to the season might convince Ibrox bosses to stump up.
Rangers’ medical problems persist
Abdallah Sima wasn’t the only injury update given on Heart & Hand either, with David Edgar also discussing the situations with Danilo, Rabbi Matondo, and Ross McCausland.
Rangers have been rocked by a series of high-profile injury problems this season, which have persisted despite the best work of Philippe Clement to turn the club’s luck.
“Danilo is back but at the very early, early stages,” said David Edgar. “He’s back training I should say but really just at the weights stage at the moment.
“So a long, long way to go for him and I wouldn’t expect to see him back in any short space of time.
“On Matondo, the manager said probably not this week but close, so I would expect to see him before the international break.
“No word yet on Ross McCausland, we’ll probably hear about that at the (pre-Benfica) press conference.”

On top of Todd Cantwell, Abdallah Sima, Rabbi Matondo, Ross McCausland, and Danilo, the likes of Alex Lowry and Kieran Dowell are also nursing injury problems at Rangers.
Other players like Ben Davies, Leon Balogun, Kemar Roofe, and Zak Lovelace are also being slowly introduced back into the team after lengthy lay-offs.
