Four Rangers stars make the WhoScored Europa League Team of the Week

Four Rangers players have secured a spot on the WhoScored Europa League Team of the Week following the performance against Red Star Belgrade, with Allan McGregor, James Tavernier, Leon Balogun, and Joe Aribo receiving the honours.

It could have been more, with Alfredo Morelos outstanding, but Atalanta’s excellent front two of Luis Muriel and Rusian Malinovskyi securing deserved spots in the attacking positions.

With four spots claimed, the Ibrox side dominate this week’s Team of the Week and the overall performance from the side was arguably the best on the night out of all the fixtures.

The match was a breathless affair and one that could have ended up 3-3 as Red Star had two goals disallowed, with a penalty also saved by McGregor in the first 30 minutes.

A three-goal advantage to take to Belgrade next week is something most bears didn’t think was possible, and it will be a lead that the side will need to utilise as the atmosphere across there will be intimidating.

Tavernier was fantastic in the victory, scoring the first with a delightful penalty and providing an assist to Leon Balogun to score the side’s third goal.

The Englishman also received the second-highest score in the TOTW with 8.9, only Muriel was higher with a perfect 10.

McGregor, Balogun, and Aribo all scored 8.5, 8.4, and 7.6 respectively as they all made valuable contributions.

Thoughts naturally turn to next week’s away leg, but first, we need to see off the challenge of Dundee in the Scottish Cup and improve our ropey domestic away form.

Let’s just hope there aren’t any European hangovers.

Meanwhile, Joe Aribo is one caution away from missing a potential quarter-final first leg tie if he gets booked against Red Star.
