No fewer than four former Rangers managers have congratulated Philippe Clement where they failed following the League Cup victory.
Rangers ended a 13-year wait to lift the League Cup trophy courtesy of a James Tavernier strike in a 1-0 victory over Aberdeen at Hampden.
The long-awaited cup win was followed by jubilant scenes as Philippe Clement celebrated his first trophy with Rangers and the club’s supporters began to dream of a treble.
But it wasn’t just the Rangers fans who were celebrating with Mark Warburton, Steven Gerrard, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and Michael Beale all commenting on the League Cup victory.
Ex-Rangers managers commend victory
Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton – who signed James Tavernier for Rangers in 2015 – responded to a fan on X following the League Cup win.
Responding with two thumbs up to supporter who thanked Mark Warburton for signing the now Rangers skipper, Philippe Clement has succeeded where the Englishman failed.
Steven Gerrard, whose appointment really kickstarted a new era at Rangers, shared an image of Connor Goldson lifting the League Cup on his official Instagram stories (18/12).
The Liverpool legend signed the centre-back from Brighton during his tenure as Rangers boss with the now 31-year-old going on to make 288 appearances at Ibrox.
Similarly, Giovanni van Bronckhorst took to Instagram (17/12) to send his “congratulations” to Rangers, sharing a blue love heart alongside a picture of the squad lifting the trophy.
The Dutchman is another manager who came into the club but could not end the League Cup hoodoo before Philippe Clement delivered this season.
And finally Michael Beale – who was beaten 2-1 by Celtic in the competition’s Final last season – congratulated the Rangers team on the League Cup win on Instagram.
This comes just as the Englishman is appointed the first-team manager of English Championship side Sunderland.
Philippe Clement sends League Cup ripple through Ibrox history
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has succeeded where these four managers failed by delivering the League Cup trophy for the Ibrox squad.
The hope will now be that the Belgian can build on the victory on the weeks and months ahead by picking up yet more silverware this season.

Rangers are very much in the Scottish Premiership hunt whilst the Scottish Cup kicks off next month with the club away to Dumbarton.
Rangers also guaranteed progression to the Last 16 of the Europa League with a famous victory away to Real Betis in Spain last week.
