During the summer transfer window, Rangers were linked with a move for Kemar Roofe.
It was reported by the Scottish Sun that if the club sold Alfredo Morelos, they would make a move for the then Leeds United striker, who was viewed as a suitable replacement.
However, the club managed to hold onto El Bufalo and therefore, no concrete bid was made for Roofe’s services.
He elected not to stay in the Championship, though, and took the chance to join Belgian giants Anderlecht.
Vincent Kompany is player/manager of the Purple & White, and Roofe headed to mainland Europe in search of silverware.
Things got off to a difficult start for the 26-year-old, with an ankle injury preventing him from making his debut until the end of September [Transfermarkt].
Former Rangers linked striker starring for Anderlecht
Since then, though, he’s made a major impact on the team’s fortunes. Having lost four of the first six league games of the season, they are unbeaten in the seven games since he’s made his debut, winning four of those.
His individual stats are outstanding too. After no tangible contributions in his first two league outings, he’s scored five goals and registered two assists in his last five appearances [Transfermarkt].
On Friday evening, he assisted former Spurs winger Nacer Chadli for the opening goal away at Zulte Waregem, before netting an 81st-minute winner to see his side continue their rise up the table.
With Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe banging in the goals of late, Rangers have no great need for an additional striker.
However, come the summer, if they have to let Morelos go, based on this kind of form, Roofe might be the kind of player the club will turn to.
