Former Rangers talent Cammy Palmer has moved to the verge of double glory with Linfield after featuring in a 3-0 Irish Cup semi-final win over Ballymena United on Tuesday.

Palmer was highly thought of at Auchenhowie and captained the Rangers Reserves to the 2018/19 SPFL Reserve League title before being sent out on loan spells to Partick Thistle, Orange County SC and Clyde.

His stint at Clyde began in October and was due to run until the end of the season – also taking him to the end of his Rangers contract – but Linfield offered him an 18-month deal in January and he opted to head to Belfast [Rangers.co.uk].

It took him a month or so to get up to speed but since then, he’s been very impressive.

Palmer has made 14 Premiership appearances for the Blues, including a run of 11 consecutive starts between mid-March and late April and he’s helped to bring his new club to the brink of the title.

With two matchdays remaining, Linfield are just one point away from winning a fourth NIFL Premiership in five seasons, while a 3-0 Irish Cup semi-final victory over Ballymena on Tuesday night means the double is very much on the cards.

Palmer played the full 90 minutes in midfield as the Blues cruised to victory at Mourneview Park courtesy of goals from Stephen Fallon and Shayne Lavery (2), setting up a final against Larne on Friday.

It’s already been a superb start to life after Ibrox for the former Gers Reserves skipper, but there’s potential to secure two pieces of silverware in the next week.

The league title is particularly significant as it would move Linfield level with Rangers on 55 domestic top-flight crowns.
