Former Rangers striker Ryan Hardie is flying in EFL League One with Plymouth Argyle.

The 24-year-old came up through the youth ranks at Rangers and made 17 senior appearances between 2014 and 2019, scoring two goals.

He spent most of that period out on loan elsewhere, though, representing Raith Rovers (twice), St Mirren and Livingston.

Despite the former Scotland youth international showing real promise at Livi in particular, he was deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox upon his return and was sold to Blackpool for an undisclosed fee in July 2019 [BBC Sport].

Things didn’t really work out for him at Bloomfield Road, but after two loan spells at Plymouth, the Pilgrims snapped him up on a two-and-a-half-year deal in January.

The former Ger wasn’t prolific during the second half of last season but he’s started the 2021/22 campaign brilliantly.

On Saturday afternoon, he scored the only goal of the game to deliver three points against AFC Wimbledon.

After being released in behind, he made both the opposition keeper and a covering defender look silly with a faked shot before stroking home a cool finish.

It was his fourth goal in his last four league matches and sixth in all competitions already this season.

It’s taken Hardie a while to find his feet since leaving Rangers, but he’s now starting to fulfil the considerable potential he showed during his time in the Ibrox youth ranks.

Rangers are back in action on Sunday afternoon against Motherwell and here’s our Predicted XI for the flag day clash.
