Former Rangers starlet Dapo Mebude sustained a ‘serious injury’ on Tuesday, bringing a friendly between Watford and Stevenage to a premature end.

Mebude spent a number of years at Rangers and made his senior debut as a substitute in the final Premiership fixture of the 2018/19 season at Kilmarnock.

However, he wasn’t able to establish himself at first-team level and last month, it was confirmed that he was leaving the club.

It didn’t take the pacy attacker long to find a new home, though, as he was snapped up by Watford earlier this month on a two-year deal with an option for two further years [Watfordfc.com].

It was an excellent move for the 19-year-old and he’s been taking part in the Hornets’ preparations for the upcoming Premier League season.

However, he may now be facing a spell on the sidelines, after picking up a ‘serious injury’ against Stevenage on Tuesday night.

The former Ger was introduced as a half-time substitute with the score at 1-1, alongside former reported Rangers target Kwadwo Baah, who Watford recently snapped up from Rochdale.

It was a big chance for Mebude to impress, but unfortunately, his night ended badly.

In the closing stages of the game, he had to receive lengthy treatment for what appeared to be a back injury, prompting the referee to end the contest early.

He was eventually stretchered off and taken away from the stadium, with both clubs posting ‘get well soon’ messages on their Twitter accounts.

Needless to say, we echo those sentiments and hope Mebude is back fit and healthy sooner rather than later.
