Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson can lead Kelty Hearts into territory they would only have dreamed of a few years ago ahead of their Scottish Cup tie against St Mirren.
They face off against the Premiership side in the fifth round of the domestic competition courtesy of a remarkable win over the last year’s winners St Johnstone in what was arguably the shock of the fourth round.

Another shock might well be on the cards if the Fife side can bring the attitude they did against the Saints, and few would be surprised if another Premiership club was sent tumbling from the competition.
Kevin Thomson has done a fantastic job at Kelty Hearts so far
the 37-year-old has impressed significantly in his first senior management role at Kelty this season. His side has only lost twice in League 2 this season as they are powering towards promotion to the third tier for the first time.
Thomson had previously worked at Rangers, coaching in the academy as well as running his own footballing academy and he took over the Kelty role in the summer, following former teammate Barry Ferguson’s move to Alloa.
Initial signs couldn’t have gone better as they have stormed to the top of the pile and are surely champions in waiting unless something drastic happens.
The Scottish Cup will be a welcome distraction from league duty and can allow Thomson and his team to test themselves against the best Scotland has to offer.

If they are to achieve hopes of making it further up the Scottish footballing pyramid, then matches like these might be much more common in the next few years.
