Rangers could be set for a Champions League blow as the reported £580m takeover of BT Sport by DAZN has collapsed, although a deal is looking to be struck between Discovery and BT in light of this.
The streaming giants DAZN were looking to take over BT Sport and gain the rights for the Champions League, in what would have been a major financial boost for all the sides involved. Although teams like Real Madrid and Chelsea hardly need more cash, for the likes of Rangers, any further financial boost is always welcome.

With the winner of this season’s Scottish Premiership title almost guaranteeing a place in the Champions League group stages and a near £40m windfall, there is no greater incentive for both Rangers and Celtic.
Rangers dealt Champions League blow as DAZN deal collapses, Scottish football could benefit
The future of broadcasting may be about to change in Britain with the rumblings of takeover deals. Following DAZN pulling out of the recent deal with BT Sport, Discovery could step in and provide a new offer.
Although Scottish football’s deal with BT Sport ended following the conclusion to the 2018/2019 season, the Sky Sports coverage has been criticised since they have taken over the sole responsibility of broadcasting league matches.
If a deal is struck between Discovery and BT, then Scottish football should really be pushing the boat out to strike a deal that could not only provide greater coverage of our game but also provide a better deal financially.
The game in this country is criminally undersold, as the total amount of money invested into Scottish football is sixteenth on the list across the continent, behind countries such as Norway, Denmark, and Sweden.

Change is needed, and soon if the game is to move out of this current stagnation. If this deal goes ahead, then the finances in this country could change dramatically, and Rangers can only benefit if they qualify for the Champions League.
Meanwhile, GvB has confirmed a double injury boost ahead of the Scottish Cup tie against Annan Athletic.
