A number of current and former Rangers players will be representing their respective nations at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ex Light Blues midfielder Juninho Bacuna will be competing at the World Cup, representing Curacao.

Rangers will have some of their players competing as well, while there could be potential transfer targets they have their eyes on.

Who is the worst-ever Rangers manager? 🤔

We think it cannot be anyone else except Russell Martin!

Ex Rangers midfielder Billy Gilmour set to miss the World Cup

The Scotland national team announced, via their X account, that Billy Gilmour will not be participating in the World Cup.

The former Rangers midfielder picked up an injury in the pre-World Cup friendly against Curacao, which is bad enough to rule him out for several weeks.

This would have been the 24-year-old’s first-ever World Cup participation had he not suffered an injury on Saturday.

Which right-back would you prefer at Rangers?

There is a chance that two new right-backs may be signed…

Coming up the ranks at Ibrox, Gilmour always wanted to make it big in his professional career and also represent his country.

While he has achieved that, making nearly 50 appearances for Scotland, he will not be on the plane for the World Cup squad.

Hearing this development, Heart and Hand podcast host David Edgar wrote on X: “That’s awful news.”

What is the state of play with Gilmour?

Gilmour has struggled to be a regular for Napoli, facing issues with his fitness as well as his form.

Under Antonio Conte, the Scotland international was subjected to a rotational role, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him next season.

Despite the lack of appearances, Conte has still backed him following games on the pitch as well as in press conferences.

Currently, the plans for the 24-year-old would be to return to full fitness, and that will be his focus during the off-season.

He is contracted to Napoli until 2029, so it’s unlikely that there will be any immediate plans to leave the Serie A club.

In recent years, he has been linked with a move away from them, but has always been focused on Napoli.
