Former Rangers midfielder Ovie Ejaria scored a superb match-winning brace for Reading against Fulham in the EFL Championship on Saturday.
Ejaria joined the Gers on a season-long loan from Liverpool in June 2018 and initially impressed with his languid playing style.
He was a regular in the team and a favourite of Steven Gerrard’s, but despite being given a creative license, he failed to contribute sufficiently, netting just twice in 28 appearances in all competitions, and registering a solitary assist in the league.
He’s now thriving at Reading, though, having joined the Royals on a permanent deal in August 2020 following two successful loan spells, and he almost single-handedly earned them three points at Fulham on Saturday afternoon with a high-class brace.
Ejaria gave the visitors the lead in the 19th minute, cutting inside from the left and bending an excellent finish into the top right corner from just inside the box.
He then doubled the advantage eight minutes into the second half with a sublime second.
After completing a one-two with Alen Halilovic with a wonderful first touch over his shoulder, the former Ger slotted a cool left-footed finish into the bottom right corner from six yards out to send the away section wild.
Fulham grabbed a goal back in the closing stages but Ejaria and co. held on for an important victory.
The former Liverpool starlet appeared to struggle with the pressure in Glasgow and ultimately didn’t cut it at Rangers.
However, although he’s not yet the finished article at 23, he’s starting to fulfil his considerable potential, and could still star at a high level in the future.
Another former Rangers player is also shining in the EFL and scored his fourth goal in four matches on Saturday.
