Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard continues fine Aston Villa start

Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard secured his second consecutive win in charge of Aston Villa as the English side defeated Crystal Palace 2-1.

This was Gerrard’s second game in charge of Villa since his controversial move to the Birmingham club and he’s made a big impact so far.

Goals from Matt Targett and John McGinn had Villa 2-0 up with four minutes remaining.

A late goal from Palace’s Marc Guehi made Gerrard and his side sweat out the final moments, but they managed to hold on for all three points.

With the Rangers fanbase currently split regarding the former manager’s decision to move on, with some wishing him well and others hoping his new venture will fail, no Bear should forget what he did with our club.

What no Rangers supporter can contest is the financial disparity between the two teams.

This gulf was likely one of the key factors behind Gerrard’s decision to leave Rangers and continue his fledgling managerial career south of the border.

With players such as Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings, who cost the club £33m and £20m respectively, Gerrard will have much more flexibility in the transfer market compared to the Ibrox side.

Regardless of this, his aim when he moved down south was to win football games and establish himself in one of the finest leagues in the world.

Although it is still raw for some Rangers fans, Steven Gerrard was always going to move to a club south of the border, it was just a shock when he joined Villa so soon. (Photo by Neville Williams/Aston Villa FC via Getty Images)

The Englishman is doing a decent job of that so far.

Meanwhile, new Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst faces a nightmare festive run that could make or break the Ibrox side’s season.
