Former Rangers golden boy Ross McCrorie has lauded his former arch-rival, Scott Brown, following Aberdeen’s midweek draw at Ibrox.

Just a few years ago, Brown was very much the enemy for McCrorie, a former Rangers youth team captain who had graduated from the Academy and was starring at first-team level.

The two played against each other on three occasions in Old Firms during the 2018/19 season, facing off in midfield for the full 90 minutes of Rangers’ 1-0 win at Ibrox in December 2018.

However, a bizarre sequence of events has led to them sharing a changing room at Aberdeen.

Despite being labelled as a potential future captain by Steven Gerrard, McCrorie slipped down the pecking order at Rangers and after a mixed loan spell at Portsmouth during the 2019/20 season, he left for Pittodrie on a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Meanwhile, last season at Parkhead, Brown received heavy criticism as Celtic imploded under pressure from a rampant Rangers.

In the summer, he also opted to head for the Granite City in search of regular playing time and coaching experience.

A Dons injury crisis then led to the two former enemies playing alongside each other in a back three at Ibrox on Wednesday night, with Brown scoring in the 2-2 draw.

“Broony has been magnificent since he came in,” said McCrorie after the game [Scottish Sun]. “I can only say good things about him.”

“He scored a great goal too. I said to him, ‘Where did you pull that from?’

“It was just brilliant. As I say, he has been magnificent since he came in. He is a true leader and all of the boys look up to him.”

If someone had told a Rangers fan after that 1-0 Old Firm win in December 2018 that McCrorie would be lauding Brown like this just a few years later, they would have been laughed off.

In other news, Rangers have been dealt a significant blow ahead of their clash with Motherwell.
