Former Rangers boss makes Celtic “obsession” jibe

Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard may have damaged his legacy by leaving midway through the season to join Aston Villa, but his recent interview in which he makes digs at a Celtic fan may have repaired some of the damage.

Rangers of course ended Celtic’s ten in row dreams last season, and despite what many fans say, they were obsessed with the holy grail of titles. If they won that one, then they could laud it over us forever.

“I’m sitting next to a Celtic fan here btw. Let’s move on swiftly he’s saying,” Gerrard said to Adam Smith on Sky Sports.

“55, 100%, because of the obsession from the Celtic fans when I went up there, ten in a row this, ten in a row that.

“To get 55 was special.

“The biggest year in Celtic’s history and that’s how it went.” Finished Gerrard with a wry smile.

This exchange could go a long way to changing some of the Rangers fan’s attitudes towards Gerrard’s departure.

Steven Gerrard is currently thriving at Aston Villa

Gerrard is doing well with Aston Villa since taking over them in November. Although they haven’t won in four matches, they drew 2-2 with Manchester Utd in their last outing and the former Gers boss has made some excellent signings.

In some ways, losing Gerrard was a blessing in disguise, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst came in and has picked the side back up from our early season stagnation.

The Englishman will be forever known as the man who stopped Celtic from achieving their ultimate goal and guided the Ibrox side to a first title in ten years.

That momentous May afternoon when we lifted the trophy, will go down in Rangers history.

So will Steven Gerrard.

Talking about Celtic, Rangers have hammered them in a big off-the-field victory.
