The fall-out continues from another unwanted record to fall this season after Rangers’ third domestic defeat in a row at home.

Interim Rangers manager Barry Ferguson wants Ibrox to be a fortress, however, there are sandcastles that currently possess more fortitude that the 125-year-old arena.

All campaign, there have been questions about the summer’s recruitment with Rangers’ squad needing another rebuild on a shoestring.

The Rangers players who should be part of summer clearout

The desperation to get high earners off the wage bills last season saw five senior players leave the club for under £800,000, barely enough to cover Connor Barron’s compensation fee.

If Rangers are to rebuild, the decks will need to be cleared with the following players currently struggling to show that they have what it takes to handles the pressure of playing for a club that demands success.

Jack Butland

Jack Butland has gone from irreplaceable to looking like a shadow of his former self.

If any player represents the last 12-months at Rangers it is one who was close to being recalled for England who could now lose his place in the team.

Unless his confidence can be rediscovered, any respectable bid will be considered.

Robin Propper

Robin Propper was signed as the experienced centre-half who could replace Connor Goldson, instead, the 31-year old has been questioned almost since his first appearance due to his struggles domestically.

A Rangers centre-half shouldn’t be substituted at half-time once, never mind four times in a season.

Statistics can be twisted to suit any argument, however, that one speaks for itself.

Ridvan Yilmaz

Ridvan Yilmaz was one of Rangers’ best players last season when, under Philippe Clement, they caught Celtic and got to the top of the league.

A player who can’t stay fit, can’t be relied upon and moving on those with questionable medical histories should be a priority.

Nedim Bajrami

Nedim Bajrami is an experienced player in one of Europe’s top leagues, has starred in a major tournament and is a highly technical player.

Like Propper, the Albanian doesn’t seem to grasp what is needed to play in Scotland, takes too many touches and doesn’t have the pace or aggression to go with his ability on the ball.

Cyriel Dessers

Cyriel Dessers is well on track to hit 30 goals and 40 goal contributions for the season, and yet, he is still a big part of the current problem.

It doesn’t matter what shape, system or formation the next Rangers manager picks if their No.9 can’t hold the ball up, link play or bully opposition defenders.

There are others who are out of contract; like Tom Lawrence and Ianis Hagi whose wages would free up a lot of space for fresher and quicker legs, with Danilo also a player who needs to prove that he can stay fit, before he can be trusted.

Add these to Rabbi Matondo, Jose Cifuentes, Kieran Dowell and Ben Davies, and the scale of the job becomes apparent.

With so many places in the squad needing to be addressed, there is no room for error in a world where there is no such thing as a risk-free signing.
