Footage of the late Celtic legend Tommy Burns refusing to concede the league to Rangers until it is “mathematically impossible” to do so has resurfaced on Twitter.

The fitting comments come as Celtic manager Neil Lennon demanded the league title is handed to Celtic in the event of the Scottish Premiership being abandoned.

Shared on popular Rangers fan page the Rangers Archives, it highlights the position of Rangers as Celtic desperately grapple for the trophy.

Burns’ comments are also in line with those of Celtic manager Neil Lennon, who said the title was not over despite Celtic stretching their lead at the top a few weeks ago.

“We’ve extended our lead which just shows you sometimes get what you deserve,” said Lennon [One Football].

“That’s all it is, a fantastic position and we march on.

“I want them to get better, I want more from some of the players as we go along.

“The league’s not done yet, we’ve got St Mirren on Saturday who are no pushovers and we can’t take anything for granted.”

Despite reports claiming the SPFL are set to award the league title to Celtic and relegate Hearts [Wallace], there has been a backlash from both Rangers and the Tynecastle club.

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson urged fans to be under no illusions that the Ibrox side refutes the title being awarded early on the grounds of sporting integrity.

This is a nod to the comments of Celtic chief Peter Lawwell in 2008 who used the defence to prevent a league season being extended after Rangers reached the UEFA Cup Final.
