‘Finally’ – Rangers fans buzzing with double Philippe Clement call for St Johnstone

Rangers gave their fans plenty to cheer with a convincing victory over Ligue 1 side Nice on Thursday night.

But while it was a brilliant night over in France, there is also the slight frustration of the Europa League Gers looking very different from the Scottish Premiership version, that result coming a lackluster draw with Dundee United.

However, the team have the chance to start to put that to bed at St Johnstone today.

A win would put Rangers to within six points of Aberdeen, who are in action later at Hearts where they don’t normally take all three points.

That in itself would start to paint a better picture but two good performances and results on the bounce would be another thing for fans to cling to.

A sign that the domestic away form is starting to improve would be very welcome.

Rangers fans delight over Ianis Hagi and Hamza Igamane calls

One man who gave Rangers support more cause for optimism than most was Hamza Igamane.

The Moroccan was trusted to lead the line against Nice and did so with aplomb, working hard to put himself out physically and run the home backline ragged but also showing ability on the ball with some skillful moments and good use of the ball.

Scoring a brilliant double was the cherry on top of the icing of a very delicious cake.

Some fans have been calling for the talented but raw 22-year-old to get more of a chance and were delighted to see him grasp it with both hands when it came along.

And they are just as buzzing to see him keep his place in the XI today.

Igamane being in the Rangers side to take on St Johnstone is one of the main talking points of Philippe Clement’s selection along with Ianis Hagi’s inclusion.

Punters are lapping it up with one saying: “The Morrocan Pele starts again.”

Another wrote: “Another Moroccan masterclass please Hamza.”

This fan said: “Good to see Igamane starting again hopefully be the start of something good for him and Rangers.”

While another added: “Glad to see the young man keep his position up top. Well deserved. Excited to see Hagi show us what he’s about. Wonder if he’ll play the 10?”

He wasn’t the only one chuffed about Hagi getting his first start of the season.

One said: “Mon the Rangers, good too see Hagi in the team and also Igamane keeping his place after a good performance in Nice.”

This fan wrote: “Looking forward to watching Hagi today.”

Another, responding to the Hagi news, said: “Only been saying this for weeks”, while another added: “Finally.”

James Tavernier returns to the Rangers side

James Tavernier has been in and out of the Rangers team in recent weeks as Philippe Clement looks to manage his load.

That looks to be all that it is rather than anything sinister and it should do the 33-year-old captain the world of good over the course of a season.

The Nice game was one in which Tavernier was rested to the bench but he has won back his place and the armband for today, coming in for Dujon Sterling. There has been a mixed reaction to that.

One fan said: “First time in a while looking at a starting 11 and it looks decent. Can’t believe I’m saying this but feels like we’ve missed Tav.”

But another said: “Apart from RB I’m good with that team. Glad too see Hagi get a start at last.”
