The final decision appears to have been made on Rangers’ Europa League match against Bayer Leverkusen at Ibrox with the game set to go ahead following a UEFA statement.

There were fears the match was going to be subject to late cancellation after Spanish media claimed European football’s governing body is set to suspend European competition [Marca].

But with a UEFA statement announcing they are not set to meet on the subject until Tuesday 17th March [UEFA], it means Rangers will be free to host the German side in front of 50,000 people this week.

The impending threat of the coronavirus has intensified in recent days with many games being played behind closed doors as countries struggle to deal with the outbreak.

Rangers SLO Greg Marshall [Rangers SLO] earlier indicated that this would not impact the match at Ibrox with no plans in place to rearrange the game.

Matches have been played behind closed doors in the Champions League with more to be played without a crowd in the Europa League tonight.

La Liga has now been suspended for two weeks with members of the Real Madrid squad being told to self-quarantine.

This follows the lead of the Italian Serie A with the EU nation now the second most affected country on planet Earth behind China.

There are also fears about the upcoming Old Firm match at Ibrox but comments made by the First Minister suggest this will still go ahead on Sunday afternoon.
