Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has intimated in parliament that a ban on mass gatherings of over 500 people or more won’t take effect until next week.

Speaking as the politician discussed the ongoing coronavirus crisis in Europe at First Minister’s Questions, reports are suggesting the First Minister is taking this approach on the advice of health professionals.

If this is the case, then this weekend’s Old Firm derby between Rangers & Celtic at Ibrox is likely to go ahead.

Should a ban on mass gatherings – which could also see matches played behind closed doors – not take place until next week, this weekend’s match should go ahead as planned.

It will be the second gathering of close to 50,000 people in Scotland in only three days with Rangers also set to play Leverkusen in the Europa League this evening.

Rangers’ last-16 Europa League tie with Leverkusen remains under threat despite the club’s SLO claiming that there was “no risk” of the match being called off [Rangers SLO] this evening.

According to reports in Spain, the Europa League and Champions League are set to be postponed indefinitely [Marca] as countries come to terms with the virus.

Should Rangers’ match with Leverkusen be called off tonight, is it irresponsible to allow the Old Firm match to go ahead this weekend?
